Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about UK self-certification and our service.

Will my employer actually accept this?

Yes. UK employment law requires employers to accept self-certification for absences up to 7 calendar days. This is covered under the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992. Employers cannot legally demand a doctor's note for short-term sickness. However, you should still follow your company's notification procedures (e.g., calling in sick within required timeframes).

Is this NHS? Is it a real doctor's note?

No, this is not an NHS document and it's not a doctor's note (fit note). It's a self-certification form, which is what UK law allows you to use for the first 7 days of sickness. You do NOT need a doctor for absences under 8 days. Self-certification means YOU certify your own illness—it's a legal right, not a medical document.

What if I'm sick more than 7 days?

If your absence extends beyond 7 calendar days, you must obtain a Statement of Fitness for Work (fit note) from a registered medical practitioner. Self-certification is only valid for up to 7 days. Our service automatically limits the date range to comply with this rule. For longer absences, book a GP appointment or use NHS 111 for medical advice.

How long is the note kept on your system?

Your personal information is automatically deleted from our servers within 10 minutes of your session ending. We do not store, archive, or retain any of your medical or personal details. The PDF you download is yours to keep—we have no copy after the auto-deletion period. This ensures maximum privacy and data protection.

Can I edit the note after downloading?

No, the PDF is generated as a final document and cannot be edited. This is by design to maintain document integrity and prevent fraudulent alterations. If you made a mistake or need to change dates, you can generate a new note through our service. Check our refund policy if you need to correct information shortly after purchase.

What if I need to extend my sick leave?

If you remain unwell and need to extend beyond your originally certified period, you have two options: (1) If still within 7 days total, generate a new self-cert note with updated dates. (2) If extending beyond 7 days, you must see a doctor to obtain a medical fit note. Always notify your employer as soon as you know you'll be absent longer than initially stated.
